Sir,

It never fails to amaze me how many able-bodied drivers continue to act so selfishly by regularly parking in bays specifically provided for disabled drivers. By doing this they are depriving the disabled from parking.

Bays in the Strand, Saundersfoot and Tudor Square, Tenby are regularly occupied by these selfish people. Some of these vehicles are even owned by retailers who trade in these areas, many of them are left in these spaces all day, depriving the disabled from accessing shops, hair salons and cafes.

I witness these vehicles regularly, and have also reported them to the police, all to no avail, even though people parked illegally are liable to be fined.

In addition to the physical pain and discomfort caused, I think the public, and particularly retailers, need to remember the following:

There are approximately 10 million disabled people in Great Britain covered by the Disability Discrimination Act, which represents around 18 percent of the population. The estimated annual purchasing power of people with disabilities is £80 billion.

Definitely food for thought.
