Warm hospitality, peacefulness and a great lunch, these are the gifts on offer from the congregation of St. John's Church in Pembroke Dock next week as they celebrate their Church Open Week. Starting with a wonderful Harvest Thanksgiving service of their popular, family-friendly Holy Communion at 10.30 am this Sunday, the week continues in style with the historic building open to the general public from 10 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday. Delicious lunches will be available from 11 am to 2 pm and there will be exhibitions of local interest photography and of paintings from friends based at The Anchorage. Being a house of God, there will also be many opportunities for prayer and worship with morning prayer every day at 9.15 am, Midday Prayer at 12 pm, plus Holy Communion services on Monday at 7 pm, Thursday at both 10 am and 7 pm. The clergy team will also be around every day, ready to offer visitors a listening ear. Vicar, Rev. Nicky Skipworth will lead a concluding service of Evening Prayer at 3 pm on Friday. Speaking of the venture, Rev. Nicky said: During our Church Open Week at St. John's, we have decided to fling wide the doors and just be here for our community in the way only the people of God can be. "If any visitors are interested in their family history, we will be happy to show them our records for baptisms and marriages, some of which go back nearly two hundred years. "Anyone can come in and stay for as long as they like; admission is free, although we'd love to receive donations. Just keeping the lights on costs hundreds of pounds every week; we receive no Government funding and would love to serve our community for years to come. "So, whether you bring Harvest gifts of food for PATCH on Sunday, or just come to receive a gift of peace in the building, please come over to our house. If it has been a while since you came to church then maybe St. John's Church Open Week could offer you a gentle way back in."
