Last Friday, the Inner Wheel Club of Pembroke held a very successful Folk and Fayre evening at Pembroke Town Hall. At this very lively occasion, musicians from the Pembroke/Pembroke Dock area and other parts of South Pembrokeshire entertained the hundred or so members and their guests.

The groups who gave their services free to support the club's charities were:

The Vagrants Crew, a popular group led by Val Canton, formed in Pembroke Dock around 1983. Eight members provided folk and traditional musical entertainment.

Also performing were a trio called Shanty le Hara, led by Pauline le Britton, who write a lot of their own music. They played their instruments and sang in exquisite harmonies.

And Five Folk, a South Pembrokeshire group led by Helen Hodges, who played Welsh folk music. They were voted the best Welsh folk dance band at the 2011 Eisteddfod.

Two members of Pembroke Inner Wheel also took part:- Dot Edwards was the compere for the evening. She kept everyone amused and on their toes. The other member was Marcia James, whose amusing poetry reading caused great hilarity.

During the interval, Inner Wheel provided a superb buffet, with ham, quiches, potatoes and a variety of salads, followed by very tempting desserts, then tea/coffee and chocolates.

There was also an interesting raffle and the grateful thanks of Inner Wheel goes to the local tradespeople like Asda, Avant Cards, Boots, Crystal, Dorinas, Josephines, the Kitchen Shop and Tescos, who kindly donated the gifts -the star prize was a free MOT from Maidenwells Garage, won by an Inner Wheel member from Tenby.

The proceeds from the evening will be given to the following charities: Alzheimer's Research and local clubs in the Pembroke and Pembroke Dock area encouraging children to participate in sporting and community activities.
