An Ibiza-style foam party, due to be hosted by Tenby's De Valence Pavilion, has come in for criticism from the town council.

Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter told her colleagues at Tuesday night's meeting of the council that she was alarmed at the age group the event was being aimed at.

Organised by 'Screem', and described as 'the biggest foam party ever seen in West Wales', the event, which is due to take place on Friday, July 24, is advertised as being for those aged 11 to 17 between 6.30 and 10 pm, and then for over 18s only after 11 pm.

"Is this the kind of image we want for the De Valence?" said Clr. Mrs. Rossiter. "I'm very concerned about the age group that it is being aimed at, there's a big difference between a child of 11 and one of 17. I know I wouldn't leave a child aged 11 at an Ibiza-style foam party."

Clr. Mrs. Trisha Putwain agreed, saying that Tenby had been trying for a better image in recent years and that this kind of event would give the wrong impression of the town.

Clr. Mike Thorne felt, though, that it was not up to the council to get involved in the issue and up to the De Valence Trust what events to book and then up to parents whether they should let their children attend.

Clr. Mrs. Karen Hart said a lot of the people in the town still thought that the council was responsible for the running of the venue, so it was important that the issue was brought to the table.

"I think that something of this nature would reflect on the image of Tenby," added the Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Julie Evans.
