John James has donated £600 to Wales Air Ambulance after asking for donations to the lifesaving charity in lieu of presents for his 90th birthday.

Mr. James wanted to donate the money to the helicopter charity for the dedicated professionalism they showed when they airlifted his grandson. His grandson was airlifted last year from Hundleton, near Pembroke, by Wales Air Ambulance after falling from a ladder and sustaining serious head injuries, from which he is still recovering.

The cheque for £600 was presented to Pembroke Dock volunteers for Wales Air Ambulance by Mr. James's daughter, Elizabeth Thomas.

Wales Air Ambulance's community co-ordinator for Pembrokeshire, Tony Key, said: "I'd like to thank Mr. James on behalf of myself and Wales Air Ambulance for this truly heartfelt donation. This donation is particularly special as it comes from a family who know the importance of the air ambulance from firsthand experience, as well as being a 90th birthday present from Mr James.

"It's thanks to the generous charitable giving of the Welsh public that our helicopters can continue to fly."
