Village vandals who destroyed floral displays ahead of judging for the annual Saundersfoot in Bloom event have been blasted by a local councillor.
Residents of Saundersfoot awoke on Sunday morning to find that a number of flower beds and plant pots had been smashed some time overnight along the resort's Brewery Terrace.
"We're all gutted as the section along there, as well as other areas in the village, was looking beautiful, as a real effort had been made as always for the annual event," said Saundersfoot in Bloom secretary, Clr. Mrs. Rosemary Hayes.
"One of the locals who had gone along to water the plants first thing on Sunday morning made the discovery.
"There were smashed tubs and pots and broken plants everywhere; it looks like someone deliberately walked across them," she continued.
Money given by the community council and donations enable the Saundersfoot in Bloom committee to buy the flowers, plants and the tubs for the displays that are dotted around the streets of the village and local volunteers help maintain them.
"The message that we must get across, though, is that we won't give in to mindless vandalism, so we've got to try and get things back to how they were and ready for the judging next Tuesday," added Clr. Mrs. Hayes, who said that the local police had been informed about the incident.
