The little village of St. Twynnells is staging its very first flower festival in aid of its church. The community is working together, along with its neighbouring churches, to raise much-needed funds for the 12th century St. Gwynog's Church.  As with all churches, the running costs are escalating and it is hoped that the festival proceeds will give the fund-raising efforts a big boost.  The festival is serving to bring together the local community and getting newcomers to the area involved with the event, whether they are churchgoers or not. The theme of the festival is 'My Favourite Book' and the titles are very varied with something of interest for all ages - from novels such as Jane Eyre and How Green was My Valley to children's books such as Harry Potter and Jungle Book. Teas, coffees and plenty of home-made cakes will be available throughout the festival as well as light lunches. Visitors will be able to take in the superb views over the Castlemartin Peninsular from the church doorway and the stone preaching cross.  To the east is the lovely expanse of Stackpole Estate and Bosherston with a glimpse of the sea, and on a good day you can even see Lundy Island. The festival begins on Wednesday, August 15, runs until Sunday, August 19, 10 am to 6 pm, and closes with Songs of Praise at 6 pm on August 19.  The fund-raising committee would like to take this opportunity to thank the event's sponsors, who include Chevron, The Rotary Club, The Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Lions, Pembroke Farmers' Club, Riverlea Tractors, Kingston Veterinary Surgery, Forget-Me Not, Hazel Clode Florists, Stackpole Inn, St. Govans Inn, Speculation Inn and many other private individuals, for their generous donations. Directions: Follow the B4319 from Pembroke towards Castlemartin AFTC (Merrion Army Camp), four miles. Other fund-raising events planned for the year include a concert courtesy of Greenhill School's 100-piece orchestra at the De Valence on September 21, and then another first - A Christmas Tree Festival - in December.
