In 1984, a group of ladies met at the floral art class led by the late Mrs. Norma Scale and three years later they formed the Tenby Flower Arrangers Club.

In 1988, to their delight, the club was officially recognised and became members of the National Association of Flower Arrangers.

Since then, the club has continued to flourish with new members joining, but also sadly over the years, many members have been lost. Now 25 years on, the members look back with pride over all they have achieved in the world of floral art.

They have participated in every cathedral festival in their by NAFAS area starting in Worcester Cathedral in 1990, followed by the cathedrals in Gloucester, Tewksbury, Hereford, Newport, Llandaff and Brecon. Other venues include Abergavenny, Picton Castle, Cilgerran Castle, Caldey Island, Roch and Carew, and nearer home, St. Mary's, Gumfreston and St. Issell's churches. Flower and Craft Festivals have been held, demonstrations given and their expertise has been called upon for many weddings.

One of the things they are most proud of is the setting up of the South Pembrokeshire Travel Fund for Sick Children in 1992.

The fund helps parents with travelling expenses when a child has to travel in or out of the area for specialised treatment. Many families have been helped and thousands of miles sponsored.

To celebrate this milestone, the arrangers are staging their own small flower festival on September 13-15 at St. Mary's Church, Tenby, and are very grateful that Canon Rector Andrew Davies has allowed them to use the beautiful church. Many of the club members are on the rota for the church flowers.

Over the years, there has been much fun, hard work (everyone has discovered that to do flower arranging you also have to be a mechanic, carpenter, weightlifter and artist), a lot of travelling, meeting likeminded people, and lasting friendships made. Many non-arrangers have helped over the years and they and husbands deserve a big thank you for the part they have played.

The club meets on the third Monday of the month at 2 pm in St. Mary's Church House and new members are always welcome. Pleasure, friendship and fun are assured.
