Sir,

I would like to give a pat on the back to our county council where their policy of only cutting a small band of roadside verges applies. This has allowed all of us to continue to enjoy the wonderful display and variety of Pembrokeshire's wild flowers. How often I have heard tourists grieve for the loss of the wild flowers from the roadside verges of their home areas and envy us our good fortune that they still flourish here.

But it isn't only the county council who can help to keep our glorious flowers. I appeal to everyone who regularly shaves the roadside verge outside their homes to stop, think of the beautiful flora they are destroying and adopt a policy of low maintenance, high level topping only, until the flowers have seeded. While I appreciate there may be a need to trim for road safety and it is often necessary to remove some plants toxic to people and animals, it is up to us all to help to promote the flowering verges which keep Pembrokeshire beautiful.

Mary-Rose Sinclair,

Chairman of Pembrokeshire branch of CPRW,
