Tenby has been in full of floral colour this week for the annual Tenby in Bloom contest. The judges, Colin Sharpe, Nigel Edwards and Rhodri Jenkins, of Pembrokeshire County Council, once again had a difficult job in choosing the winners as the displays were all of such a high standard, but they finally decided on the following:
Private Houses
Best garden visible from the road: 1. Mr. and Mrs. Church, 13 Oakridge Acres; 2. Mavin Jenkins, 103 Upper Hill Park. Best forecourt without garden: 1. Robin Scanlon, 3 Augustus Place; 2. Maureen Ward, 2 Augustus Place. Best display with window boxes/hanging baskets etc only: 1. Betty Beynon, 6 The Glebe; 2. Mrs. Hartland, 70 Heywood Court. Best garden not visible from the road: 1. Mr. W. Brace, 5 Heywood Court; 2. Alan and Chris Gourley, 78 Heywood Court. North Residents Association: 1. Mrs. L. Kelly, Knots Landing, Southlands.
Hotels/Guest Houses
Best overall display (over 10 bedrooms): 1. Tenby House Hotel; 2. Clarence House Hotel. Best display for guest houses/hotels (with 10 bedrooms or less): 1. Augutus House, South Cliff Street; 2. Myrtle House Hotel, St. Mary's Street. Public Houses/Restaurants
Best frontage display with window boxes, hanging baskets etc: 1. Hope and Anchor; 2. Buccaneer Inn. Best beer garden display: 1. The Buccaneer Inn; 2. Hope and Anchor.
Any other business, retail or educational premises
Best external display at a retail shop: 1. Equinox; 2. Sub-Urban. Best external display at business premises, training establishment and miscellaneous: 1. St. Mary's Church; 2. Day Unit at Tenby Cottage Hospital. Best overall school - floral/garden: 1. Tenby Junior School; 2. Tenby Infants School; 3. St. Teilo's RC School.
Group projects
Best group (eg. street, square, group of adjoining houses): 1. Wimbledon Court; 2. Tudor Square/top of St. Julian Street. Best estate: 1. Heywood Court. Best kept street (tidy, weed free and clean): 1. South Cliff Street.
