A top Irish dancing title has been brought to Pembrokeshire for the first time through the talent of fleet-footed Jenny Hynes.

Fourteen-year-old Jenny, of Saundersfoot, was one of 13 youngsters from the county's Hynes School of Irish Dancing to compete in the recent CRN Irish Open Championships in Dublin.

Against fierce competition from dancers from Wales, Ireland, England and Holland, she won the Bungrad Under 14 title at her first attempt.

Making Jenny's victory particularly special was the fact that she is taught by her mum Julie Hynes, whose Saundersfoot-based dancing school now has around 100 pupils.

There was also success at the championships for 12-year-old Sam Davies, who came third in the Ullmhuchan Under 13 class, and 15-year-old Rhiannon Tebbutt, who was seventh in the Bungrad Over 14 class.

Rhiannon's dress featured the Pembrokeshire Celtic cross, and was designed and made by Valerie Burke, of Llanteg, who also created a waistcoat for Sam and new dresses for Jenny and her own daughter, Tessa.

Also flying the flag for Pembrokeshire amongst the 1,000 competitors at the event were Naomi Bowen, Tessa Burke, Emma Griffiths, Megan Hall, Katie Harries, Cheryl John, Martha O'Neill, Siobhan O'Sullivan, Hannah Pugh and Kelly Russell.
