They are also hoping that anybody participating in the workshops will then join in a procession down Tenby High Street, through Tudor Square to the harbour on Sunday, June 25, at 1 pm.
Costume Making Workshops allow the children to use their imagination and show off their hidden creative talents. With the support of Lydia Salmon, parents and friends the children will have the opportunity to make some amazingly colourful and individual outfits for the procession on Sunday. In previous workshops, some children have learnt to sew and design outfits for the first time. The last workshop in the series (Sunday), time will be given for face painting and last minute details being given to outfits.
Running at the same time are the Willow Sculpture Making Workshops - great fun. With the support of Chris Elliot, of voluntary arts group MADCAP, he will be able to teach the children how to make their own willow, straw and rope fishy keepsake.
Chris explained; "I like the idea of sculpting with grass because we are surrounded by it wherever we go and never see it being used in any other context. What we will be doing in my workshop is making dozens of hay sausages moulded around willow and hazel structures ready for reshaping into fish and other sea like creatures."
Joining in the Sunday procession will be Samba players, stilt walkers and circus performers. Cherylee Barker, of Tenby Events, explained: "The procession will be very entertaining. There will be lots of children parading with their uniquely designed willow sculptures, in their brightly coloured handmade costumes. We will have music from local Samba players and stilt walkers from Circo Rum Ba Ba joining us. It will be a lovely site for all the family and visitors in Tenby that day." The 'Fishy Happenings' workshops have received funding from Objective 1 ERDF and Pembrokeshire Fish Week.
The worksops will be held on Monday, June 19, Tuesday, June 20, 6 - 8 pm, and Sunday, June 25, 11.30 am - 1.30 pm. The procession on Sunday, June 25, will be at 1 pm. The cost os £3 for three workshops or £1.50 per workshop (advanced booking essential). Limited spaces available.
