Three local fishermen have been fined after being caught scallop dredging in Cardigan Bay.

The fishing vessel 'Flowing Tide Two' based in Fishguard, was dredging to the north of Cemaes Head in February, when officers of the North West and North Wales Sea Fisheries, boarded the boat and discovered a number of undersize scallops in bags at the stern of the vessel.

All three fishermen pleaded guilty to charges at Cardigan court recently.

Skipper Nicholas Howells, of Saundersfoot, and Daniel James Willington, both aged 25, were fined £225 each and given a £15 government surcharge, while 52-year-old Gareth Willington, of Carew, was given an absolute discharge.

All three were ordered to pay £1,000 each in costs.
