A 21-year-old fisherman, formerly of Saundersfoot, has been voted the 'public's most popular male' contestant at the grand finals of Mister Wales 2011 recently.

Daniel Birch, who is currently working as a crab fisherman in Aberystwyth, lived in Saundersfoot for 10 years, with his mother Mrs. Jane Jones. His grandmother Mrs. Raydene Deakin, still resides in the village on The Ridgeway.

As well as scooping the 'public's most popular male' award at the ceremony held at St. David's Hall in Cardiff, Daniel was also credited with raising the most money for the competition's chosen charity, The Joshua Foundation.

The three-day Mister Wales event also involved a charity ball and an empowerment day, which saw all the contestants walk barefoot over burning hot coals!
