One of Britain's most exciting young chefs, Chris Tanner, is taking part in Pembrokeshire Fish Week 2007 this summer. Chris, who runs two acclaimed restaurants in Plymouth and is a rising TV star, is hosting a Fish and Shellfish Masterclass on June 27. The event is one of the annual festival's highlights and will take place at the De Valence Pavilion in Tenby. Chris spent five years working for the Roux brothers in restaurants in New York, France and London, before becoming Head Chef at Greenhills Hotel in Jersey. He subsequently opened from scratch the Kitley Hotel in Yealmpton, Devon, where he achieved 3 AA Rosettes. He now runs, together with his brother James, Tanners and The Barbican Kitchen, which opened in April 2006. As well as publishing 'For Chocolate Lovers', the brothers are rapidly becoming regulars on our TV screens, featuring in their own 15-part series The Tanner Brothers. Chris has also featured on ITV's This Morning while James has made regular appearances on the BBC's Saturday Kitchen. "We are delighted to welcome Chris to Fish Week 2007," said Kate Morgan. "He and James are well known for their experience in top restaurants around the world, and their love of fresh local ingredients." Other notable chefs including Angela Gray, Pierce MacCauliffe, and Andrew Swales, will also be hosting demonstrations, tastings and classes during the festival. Pembrokeshire Fish Week celebrates the county's fishing tradition, beautiful coastline and clean seas - last year, the county scooped 11 Blue Flags, 14 Green Coast Awards and 32 Seaside Award beaches – Wales' biggest haul. The week-long festival includes more than 100 events county-wide, from Italian fish cookery to paella nights, rockpool rambles, and river cruises. New this year are a Ray Mears-style overnight coastal bushcraft workshop, coastal explorer sessions at St. Davids and Freshwater East, a major sea angling competition at Fishguard with £750 top prize, and a a charity fisherman's dinner hosted by Stena Line. You can also enjoy a new family fun day ('Stena Saturday') at Fishguard, together with established fun days at Milford Haven, traditional home of the county's fishing industry, and Tenby. The festival, now in its eighth year, will be launched at Milford Haven Docks, on Saturday, June 23, and will run until July 1. Pembrokeshire Fish Week is organised by Pembrokeshire County Council.
