THE 'essential companion' to the five novels of Brian John's Angel Mountain Saga was launched in appropriate fashion on Bonfire Night, with rockets and a spectacular firework display. A large gathering of friends and fans of the series gathered in Cilgwyn, in the shadow of Carningli and close to the imagined location of Plas Ingli, the house inhabited by the feisty heroine and her family. Brian signed many copies of the new book for guests, some of whom had travelled from as far afield as Oxford for the occasion. The new book, written in response to many requests, gives background information about the key characters in the stories, the locations featured, local traditions, symbolism, landscape and great issues of the day. There is also a lot about the author's writing process, and the book is illustrated with more than 100 specially-taken colour photographs. But the star of the book is of course Mistress Martha Morgan, whose far-from-perfect personality is examined in some depth. Issued in a limited edition in hardback, all copies of the book are numbered and signed. 'Martha Morgan's Little World' (ISBN 0905559851) is published at £12 by Greencroft Books, and is now available from all good bookshops and other bookselling outlets in West Wales.
