A new online directory of walking groups is aiming to make more Pembrokeshire people aware of the opportunities on their doorstep and help improve their health and well-being.
The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority has collected details from more than 30 groups, from locations including St. Dogmaels and Cilgerran in the north to Tenby and Llanteg in the south, with many organising walks all over the county and beyond.
Park Authority health and tourism policy officer, Hannah Buck, said: “The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is home to hundreds of miles of coastal and inland footpaths, which offer an easy way to get active in the great outdoors for free.
“The aim of the Pembrokeshire Walking Groups Directory is to link people who want to enjoy the health, well-being and social benefits of walking with the existing groups that operate in their local community and in turn help these groups find new members.
“The directory is part of the Let’s Walk Pembrokeshire multi-partner initiative that aims to get more people walking for enjoyment and as part of their everyday routine. There is training available to organisations to help them develop walks and walking opportunities for their service users.
“Each May, Let’s Walk Pembrokeshire promotes a number of walks across the county, so keep an eye out in the spring for more information.”
Those who prefer to plan their own walks can take advantage of the 186-mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail, which is managed by the National Park Authority, and more than 200 circular walks that are available to download from the authority’s website.
The Pembrokeshire Walking Groups Directory project was funded through the Welsh Government’s Rights of Way Improvement Programme.
