Lennie the Leek, Pembrokeshire's school meals mascot, has held a competition to find a friend to keep him company over the long summer holidays. As a result, Lennie received over 7,000 pictures of suggested partners from primary schoolchildren in the county. It was a really difficult choice for Lennie to pick his favourites, but with the help of county councillor Islwyn Howells, he managed to pick two. The winner from the infant age group was Shannon Hughes, aged seven, from Monkton Priory School, with her design of a carrot called Chrystal. The winner from the junior age group was Elisha Bennett-Evans, aged 10, from St. Francis Roman Catholic School, Milford Haven, with her design of Brie-Anna Broccoli. Both winners have received a bike from Lennie the Leek. A special prize has been awarded to Ben George, aged nine, from Milford Haven Junior School, for his innovative design of a dog made out of bananas and named Buster. The eight runners-up all received a cookery book and the pictures will be on display in County Hall during the summer holidays.
