The first film screening at the De Valence on May 1 was definitely popular - 58 people came to see ‘Film Stars don’t die in Liverpool’. The new screen was in place up on the balcony and as people arrived, more chairs had to be put out - and the existing ones had to be shuffled slightly closer together.

The queue to pay for membership and admission grew (thanks for the extra help supplied!) and the bar was kept busy supplying drinks. People who had eaten at the Fuchsia Caffe came with good reports of the meal.

The film was based on a true story of Gloria Grahame, an aging Hollywood movie star, who has a romance with a young actor in Liverpool. When she develops terminal cancer, she arrives in Liverpool to stay with his family. This film took 35 years to reach the screen, but it was worth the wait.

The next film will be on Tuesday, May 22, and will be ‘Final Portrait’, a portrayal of Alberto Giacommetti painting film critic James Lord in Paris in 1964, apparently a very amusing, astringent chamber piece of a movie, performed with sympathy and wit by Geoffrey Rush and Armie Hammer. Come along and find out! The film will be screened at 7.30 pm, and admission is £5 or £4 if you are a member - annual membership costs £10.

The Fuchsia Caffe is offering a pre-screening two-course meal at 6 pm which needs to be booked directly with them.

Information on the up-coming films can be found on the Films4Tenby website, www.films4tenby.co.uk, or on Facebook @films4tenby.

There is another film screening in Tenby this week. Tenby Library and ‘Rooms With A View’ - Films4Tenby’s pop-up cinema group - are once again presenting the current season of Future Shorts. These are recent award-winning short films from around the world and will be screened in the hall beside Tenby Library tomorrow (Saturday) at 7 for a 7.30 pm screening. Entrance is £5, and refreshments will be available for a donation to library funds.

Everyone gets a voting slip to select their favourite film, and the overall winner gets sent in to Future Shorts to join the votes from other screenings around the world. The overall winner receives a prize. As far as we know, Tenby is the only place in Wales where you can see Future Shorts - don’t miss it!
