Surely nobody who saw last Sunday's Finnish film, 'The Man Without a Past' (dir. Aki Kaurismaki) could say an ill word about it. Beautifully observed, acted and filmed - a little bit surreal, a little bit funny, and a little bit romantic - it was guaranteed to melt the hearts of the most hard-bitten of film-goers. It worked at the Cannes Film Festival in 2002 ('Best Actress' and 'Grand Jury' prizes), and it worked at the Queen's Hall in Narberth in 2005! Well done all! This Sunday's film is the last of the season. 'Italian for Beginners' (cert. 15), is a romantic comedy from Denmark. "...an uplifting portrait of people finding love, friendship and community far away from traditional family ties." (Good for all you Italian learners too).
