THE Torch Theatre's popular Sunday night film club recommences on Sunday, October 6, with the subtitled film 'Y Tu Mama Tambien' (Cert 18) directed by Alfonso Cuaron. Commencing at 7.30 pm, the film's frank, uninhibited sex is refreshing, funny and true.

The film is a road trip movie about two rich teenage boys deserted by their girlfriends for the summer and their older companion Luisa as they head out of Mexico City in search of a fictional beach - 'Boca del Cielo' (Heaven's Mouth), where the trio's wealthy background is contrasted to the harsh realities of the poverty of the surroundings.

On Sunday, October 20, at 7.30 pm, Julio Medem's subtitled 'Sex and Lucia' is a landmark movie boldly shot and superbly scored by Alberto Iglesias. Described as 'post-modern cinema at its most passionate', the film's explicit on-screen sex scenes between protagonists Lucia and Lorenzo push back the traditional boundaries of film making. Certificate 18.

The Boulting Brothers' 1947 film of Graham Greene's novel - scripted by Terence Rattigan - is a bravura piece of film making. It has a freshness and abrasive energy which has completely prevented it from dating. this will show at the Torch on Sunday, November 3, at 7.30 pm (Cert PG).

On Sunday, November 17, at 7.30- pm. Danis Tanovie's Oscar-winning film 'No Man's Land will be shown (Cert 15). This anti-war movie explores suffering in Bosnia as Ciki and Nino, a Bosnian and a Serb, are soldiers strained in 'no man's land' - a trench between enemy lines during the Bosnian war.

'Rififi' will be shown on Sunday, December 1, at 7.30 pm. This subtitled film has been described as one of the great heist-gone-wrong flicks. Jules Dassin's 1954 French underworld classic boasts a very special combination of Parisian style, criminal ingenuity and astringent ruthlessness.

Coming soon: 'Lantana' - a rare thriller which insists that the most compelling mysteries are buried in human relationships. 'La Paglia give the performance of his career in one of the best films of the year' (Time Out).
