Plans by Pembrokeshire County Council to move Tenby's civic amenity site from its current Salterns location have come in for criticism from local councillors. The county council believe that a move to a larger site, possibly outside of Tenby, would considerably improve the facilities and services. However, when discussing the matter at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, members vowed to do all they could to keep the current site. "The residents of Tenby are very concerned over this proposal, in fact I've never been approached so much over one matter," said Clr. Paul Rapi. "We should be fully supportive of maintaining our waste and recycling facilities and must fight to keep the site under all circumstances," remarked Clr. John Griffiths. The council had also received correspondence over the matter from Tenby Walled Town Residents' Association who were also concerned that the facility could be relocated a significant distance from Tenby. Clr, Mike Evans proposed that the town council write to the county council with their concerns. "What do the people of the town pay their rates for? We must fight tooth and nail to keep this site; it's a facility we can ill afford to lose," he said. "Can you imagine the impracticalities of driving to a site, possibly in Kilgetty. Relocation out of town would only exacerbate problems we already have," added Clr. Evans.
