Railwaymen were launching intensive campaigns at Tenby and Whitland in an effort to gain massive public support for the retention of passenger services on the Whitland to Pembroke Dock line.

That, in brief, was the story of finals day in Tenby Bowling club’s 44th open tournament. Winner of the Gold Cup after the best, final for years was popular Charlie Brookman of Victoria Park Club, Cardiff. One of the Tenby Club’s outstanding players who had always done well in the tournament but often fell at the last fence achieved an ambition to by winning the Silver Bowl. The Five Arches Cup, consolation ....... for players eliminated in the early rounds of the major events, who aptly won by the Tenby club captain, Kingsley Batchelor, his first tournament success in 20 years bowling.

Excellent racing was seen at Tenby Regatta when the bay became a kaleidscope of colour with every variety of boat from tiny minisails to the big ketch, Dorothy Ann in a cloud of canvas.
