Tenby’s Mayor, Clr. W. Chris Jones, issued an appeal to organisations and people in Tenby and district to unite in taking an active part in the fight for the retention of the rail service.
The previous year’s runner-up, 26-year-old Mrs. Barbara Simpson, of Begelly, became Miss Tenby 1967. She was crowned by the Mayor and presented with cheque by the Mayoress.
A joint rescue operation by Pembrokeshire police officers and members of the public prevented what might have been a major tragedy when six children were cut off by the tide at Freshwater East.
Lampeter Velfrey Carnival Queen was Miss Sheila Thomas; her attendants were Miss Jennifer Bevan and Miss Gillian Howells. Fairy Queen was Joyce Shipton and her attendants were Yvonne Hayes and Janet Lloyd. Page boys were Roland Davies and Leighton Arnold. At Clynderwen, Carnival Queen was Miss Alona Bowen and her attendants were Hugh Thomas, Eion Nicholas, Melany Jones, Mandy James, Mary Williams and Carol Llewellyn.
Tenby Rugby Club was to go on a short pre-season tour to Oldham.
Trend-setters always, Tenby Round Table staged the resort’s first donkey derby and, despite depressing weather, scored another winner. The magnificent Lodge Farm field, kindly loaned by Mr. Vincent Griffiths, was an ideal setting. Well over 1,000 people patronised the event and they went away enthusing over an excellent two hours entertainment.
