Members of Tenby Borough Council were in favour of the possibility of extending summer time throughout the year to conform with mid-European time. They were to make a recommendation to this effect to the Home Office.
Eighteen-year-old Miss Janice Hughes, of Pentlepoir, became the first girl to gain a City and Guilds science laboratory technicians ordinary certificate at Neyland Technical College.
Father Christmas was accorded a warm welcome when he arrived in Tenby. Crowds of children and parents thronged Tudor Square to await the arrival of the distinguished visitor. He was escorted from the railway station by the president of Tenby Chamber of Trade, Mr. David Hughes. They travelled on a motorised sleigh decorated with fairy lights. Waiting in Tudor Square to welcome him was the Mayor, Ald Ivor Crockford, wearing his scarlet robes and full regalia and accompanied by his civic mace bearers.
Leeds United scouts were watching 17-year-old Graham Jenkins, of Kilgetty, at the South Wales and West Wales youth trial. Graham, who played for Pembroke Boro, scored three goals in the West’s 5-1 win over the South.
Pembroke and District Angling Club held their seventh annual dinner at the Fountains Restaurant and Ballroom, Tenby. There was a company of 100 members and friends and the chief guest was the Mayor of Pembroke, Miss M. Mathias.
In his report to Greenhill County Secondary School’s prize day, headmaster, Mr. L. G. Hill, commented on the ‘development towards a fully comprehensive organisation.’ And to opponents of comprehensive education, the tribute to the school by the guest speaker must have been a bitter pill. For Professor Alun Davies, head of the department of history at University College, Swansea, said: “I can see you have been doing an immense range of subjects. I really have been amazed at the range of subjects.”
Rugby: Narberth 3pts Tenby 3. Tenby’s visit to the Lewis-Lloyd ground in a championship fixture was marred by bad ground conditions. Already cut-up in previous matches, the heavy rain the previous night and showers on match morning, saw the churned-up area become a mud-bath within the first 10 minutes where early play settled. Despite the bad conditions, play was full of interest and a great duel was fought out between the packs and half-backs.
