Tenby faced the prospect of being ‘marooned’ on Sundays by lack of public transport. Visits to the main hospital centres of Haverfordwest and Carmarthen would be particularly affected. Following the proposals of British Rail to withdraw Sunday services, Tenby Town Council’s general purposes committee learned that the Western Welsh bus company were planning to make similar economies.

Efforts were being made to stage the 1970 National Eisteddfod in Haverfordwest.

Large congregations attended the centenary celebrations at Zion CM Church, Begelly.

A county rally in connection with the National Savings Movement was held at Pembroke Castle.

The 11th annual Gloucester - Saundersfoot run for vintage and veteran motorcycles was staged. Dennis Owen from Saundersfoot, on a 1915 Wolf, took the Dave James Cup and the Vic Morris Cup for the best performances on the run and in the Concourse D’Elegance.

Shortly after taking office, Tenby’s Mayor, Alderman Ivor Crockford, launched an appeal for public seats to be presented to the borough. The response was magnificent and 54 seats were received.

Rugby: Milford Haven 6 pts Tenby United 30. Tenby United’s Roy Powling who officially switched roles from centre to match secretary a couple of season before, was still turning out for the club when required. Playing fullback against Milford in the first match of their league programme, he boosted his side’s total to an overwhelming 30 points by kicking seven goals - four penalties and three conversions. He just couldn’t go wrong, driving them over from all ranges and all angles.
