British Rail admitted the blow Pembrokeshire - and Tenby in particular - had feared. The British Railways Board intended to withdraw the passenger service on the Whitland - Pembroke Dock line. All the stations operating as halts were listed and Tenby and Pembroke Dock were added as due for closure.

Pembrokeshire Water Board was given the go ahead by the Secretary of State for Wales to construct a giant reservoir at Llysyfran at a cost of over £4 million.

Carnival Queen at Llanddewi Velfrey was Miss Rosemary Thomas. Her attendants were Susan Richards and Ann Harries, Fairy Queen was Teresa Howells with attendants Thelma Howells and Denise Parry and page boys were Gary Rees and Elvin Thomas.

Pembrokeshire bowls champion for the second time was the well-known Tenby bowler, Mr. R. F. Diment. He won the singles championship when he beat Idris Davies, of Haverfordwest, by 21-17.

Miss Sylvia Davies was Queen for Tavernspite Carnival and Sports. Attendants were Sian Williams and Jennifer Evans. Fairy Queen was Mary Jones and attendants Carol Higgon, Julie Badham, Elizabeth Bevan and Jane Mathias.
