An 18-year-old secretary, on holiday from Walsall, became Miss Tenby 1966 after entering the Chamber of Trade beauty contest on the spur of the moment. Her name was Miss Diane Sharrott. The other finalists were Miss Jayne Webber, of Seven Oaks, Kent, Miss Carole Thomas, of Tenby, Miss Pawlette Cotton, of Dudley, Mrs. Barbara Simpson, of Cross Inn, Miss Shirley Ford of Tenby, Miss Lynne Hain, of Cardiff, Miss Margaret Herd, of Manchester, Miss Jane Morris, of Newport, Mon.

Miss Janet Wilson of Whitland, was crowned Queen of Lampeter Velfrey Carnival. Fairy Queen was Miss Gillian Jackisch. Attendants were Miss Celia Davies, Miss Rhiannon Richards, Yvonne Hayes, Gillian Lewis, Leighton Arnold and Michael Parry.

The South Wales Electricity Board were so concerned at breakdowns in power supply to the Tenby district that they were bringing forward proposals for the establishment of a new distribution system for the area. The Mayor, Clr. Ivor Crockford, told the council’s general purposes committee that the board planned to spent in the region of £60,000 to £70,000 on the scheme.
