Seven acres of land on the outskirts of Narberth were earmarked as a site for the new West Wales Crematorium which could well be in operation by the end of the following year.

Maintenance fitters at Europe’s largest milk processing factory, the Unigate Creameries, Whitland, were on unofficial strike. The men, all members of the Amalgamated Engineering Union, refused a 4d-an-hour pay rise which had been offered to them after two months negotiation.

A former pupil of Tenby’s Greenhill School sailed for America aboard the SS United States to take up an appointment in New York. She was 22-year-old Miss Jennifer Dale, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Dale, of Upper Hill Park, Tenby.

Cresselly, winners of the Harrison-Allen Bowl for the previous two years, and on paper favourites to lift the trophy for a third successive year, were knocked out by second division Llanrhian at Cresselly.

Saundersfoot CP School’s annual athletic sports, held at Coppet Hall, provided intensely keen competition between rival houses, Monkstone and Coppet. At the end of the afternoon, only one point separated them and Monkstone eventually won the Howells House Cup. The outstanding boy athlete, who won the Victor Ludorum John Pennant Cup, was Daniel Roach, while the Victrix Ludorum was Marie Hancock.

Victor Ludorum at Jeffreyston Voluntary School sports was David Merriman, with Victrix Ludorum Jane Cole.

At Narberth CP School, Victor Ludorum winners were Hugh Salmon and Kelvin Williams, while Delyth Nicholas was Victrix Ludorum.
