May 6, 1966: Although 12 months previously, they threw out the suggestion that a computer should be installed in the county treasurer’s department, members of Pembrokeshire County Council voted overwhelmingly in favour of installing a computer at a cost of £69,400.

The Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. G. M. Dowsett, crowned the town’s National Savings Queen, Miss Sheila Williams, of Folly Farm, Begelly, a pupil at Greenhill County Secondary School, Tenby.

Miss Carol Evans, of Sardis, was chosen Carnival Queen of Kilgetty. She was chosen at a concert at the WI Hall, Kilgetty.

Tenby United’s skipper in the 1966-7 season would be their talented fly-half Ivor Broome.

The splendid lead given to the savings movement in Pembrokeshire by Tenby’s voluntary workers was the subject of high praise at celebrations held in the town to mark the 50th anniversary of the movement.

The one characteristic of Whitland Grammar School which had not changed over the years was the friendly relationships between staff and pupils, members of the Old Pupils’ Association were told at their annual reunion dinner. The dinner, held at the Ivy Bush Royal Hotel, Carmarthen, was probably the most successful held by the association since it was revived 10 years previously, if only because of the large cross-section of old pupils represented in the company of 120.

Tenby United were Pembrokeshire League champions for the second year running.

Narberth, once the chopping-block of Pembrokeshire rugby, completed their best season for years. Club officials said the team had not enjoyed such results since 1949-50. Narberth completed the season by challenging Tenby United for the Pembrokeshire Championship. They finished runners-up, a couple of points behind Tenby, but they had the satisfaction of holding the United to a draw on both the Lewis Lloyd ground and at Heywood Lane.
