March 4, 1966: Saundersfoot’s £300,000 sewerage scheme was officially opened when the chairman of Narberth Rural Council, Mr. Ben Williams, unveiled a plaque at the pumping station.
Well-known local sportsman, Mr. J. M. Joseph, asked Tenby Borough Council if they would definitely earmark the site of the town’s refuse tip at the bottom of Heywood Lane for a playing field.
Mr. Dennis Reed won the R. J. Scale Cup for best actor for his performance of Harry Battersby in Tenby YFC’s production in the County Drama Festival. Overall festival winners were Pembroke Grammar School, who met Llawhaden and South Pembs in the final.
Members of Tenby Townswomen’s Guild entertained their fellow Guild members with a slick song and dance routine at their 12th birthday dinner held at the Royal Gatehouse Hotel. They had plenty to celebrate, with a record membership of 164, the largest Guild in the Federation.
Rugby: Tenby United 3 pts Haverfordwest 3. Wherever your loyalties lay, the result of this vital championship match was a surprise. For league leaders Tenby, it was a shock which should never have happened. For Haverfordwest, on the defensive for threequarters of the game, it was a morale-boosting success they hardly deserved. Alan Davies scored Tenby’s try.
