Despite the miserable weather, 50 local volunteers turned up to take part in a beach clean at Freshwater West on Saturday, September 30.

Organised by Keep Wales Tidy, the clean-up was supported by Natural Resources Wales, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, National Trust and of course Pembrokeshire County Council.

“A big thank you to all those who came and took part,” said Mari Williams, project officer for Keep Wales Tidy. “In just a couple of hours we collected an impressive 50 black bin liners worth of waste. The most prevalent items we found were fishing related litter such as nets and rope and rigid plastic items such as bottles and containers.

“It’s great that due to our new partnership with TerraCycle, the collected rigid beach plastics can now for the first time be given a second life by being recycled into either Head & Shoulders shampoo bottles containing 25 per cent beach plastics or as the likes of benches or waste bins, rather than ending up in landfill.”
