Following her success at the Narberth A Cappella Voice Festival 2014, Flamenco singer Lina León is returning to Pembrokeshire to perform with her Flamenco trio at the Queen’s Hall in Narberth tonight (Friday).
Lina’s wild flute playing will be joined by the guitar and percussion of Jorge Bravo, winner of the ‘Nino Ricardo International Guitar Competition’, and the fiery dance of Annya Marte. Together they will create an electric Flamenco experience, showcasing their collective expertise in the exciting genre.
Born in Huelva, Spain, Lina grew up in a musical family where flamenco and classical music were both very present, starting her music studies at a very young age. Her career as a flute player has taken her to work alongside Sir J. E. Gardiner’s orchestra ORR, touring worldwide, performing in venues such as NY Carnagie Hall, Paris Opèra Comique and Royal Albert Hall (BBC Proms).
Besides her freelance orchestral work with different orchestras in Europe, Lina has been singing in the Flamenco style with numerous dance companies and has been employed in various Flamenco venues such as the Palacio del Flamenco and Los Tarantos, Barcelona, where she is currently based.
The renowned contemporary dance company Sol Picó also recently recruited Lina for her last production, We Women, that has been premiered at the Grec Festival and the International Festival of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Few acoustic guitarists in Europe can compose and play with such personality and technical skill as Jorge Bravo. He has a unique style of virtuoso performance which demonstrates a wide range of influences from classical and flamenco to gypsy jazz and Latin American styles.
Annya Marte began her training as a classical ballet dancer in her home country, the Dominican Republic, where she performed with Ballet Nacional Dominicano and Ballet Concierto Dominicano for almost 14 years. In 2006 she moved to London to join La Escuela de Baile under the watchful eyes of Nuria Garcia.
