Pembrokeshire's famous festive production of the Tenby Boxing Day Swim has once again proved to be a fundraising star.

Over £13,000 was raised for charities and good causes as a result of the 2013 dip, which attracted more than 550 brave bathers and huge crowds of spectators.

In contrast to the torrential rain of the 2012 event, it took place in glorious weather conditions.

And the fancy dress theme of pantomime brought out the characters in their droves to the North Beach - including Snow White, the Ugly Sisters, dames galore and even a panto zebra.

Sponsored by FBM Holidays, Lewis, Lewis & Co. Ltd and Princes Gate Water, the swim saw many superb fundraising efforts for local, national and international charities, and takes the total raised in the event's 43-year history to nearly £240,000.

Four good causes nominated by event organiser, Tenby Sea Swimming Association (TSSA), each received £500 - Skanda Vale Hospice, The Rudy Trust, the Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome charity and the District Brownies Centenary Appeal.

There were also donations of £50 each to St. John Ambulance, Tenby Surf Lifesavers, Tenby Coastguard, Tenby lifeboat, the Pembrokeshire Paddlers and Tenby Sea Cadets who help with the event's organisation and safety.

The top group fundraising effort was by Valero, who raised an additional £2,902 for the Rudy Cole Trust, while the top single sponsorship was collected for Kidney Research by Tula Jones.

TSSA also organises the Caldey Swim, and is hoping for 100 participants for the event on Sunday, August 31. For more information, and entry forms, visit http://www.Tenby-Caldey-Swim.co.uk">www.Tenby-Caldey-Swim.co.uk. Also see report and picture on page 3.
