Following a recent site meeting with Pembrokeshire County Council's traffic manager to look at ways of alleviating problems caused by vehicles parking in Serpentine Road, town councillors are to defer any decision until they receive further feedback.
Clr. Mrs. Sandra Williams recently raised the issue at a meeting of Tenby Town Council when it was noted that cars were parking on the pavements of the road, forcing parents with pushchairs and pedestrians into danger when stepping off to get around the cars.
As a result of the meeting with county council's John Price, three proposals have been given consideration - the introduction of a white line along the western pavement of Serpentine Road to delineate a pedestrian footpath; that the county council look into the possibility of trialling a one-way traffic flow in Serpentine Road from the junction of Heywood Lane northwards to Narberth Road; that a 20-metre length of double yellow lines be introduced at the Heywood Lane/Serpentine Road junction as originally proposed.
Clr. Mike Thorne felt that pedestrian safety was a prime concern when considering the proposals.
After a lengthy discussion involving all aspects of the matter, with councillors failing to agree on whether all three recommendations should be put forward, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas welcomed more feedback on the matter from the schools, parents and residents of the area.
"We need to give this issue and a way to resolve it some serious thought before the next meeting," she said.
