A vintage cheddar made by First Milk in Haverfordwest has secured Supreme Champion title at Global Cheese Awards for the second time in four years, marking another triumph for the British dairy co-operative.
Having won category champion for the Best British & Irish Creamery Cheddar, Haverfordwest’s gold-medal vintage cheddar went on to beat every other UK and Irish cheese of any type, to become UK Supreme Champion.
This latest accolade sits alongside the Global Supreme Champion title the vintage cheddar won only three years ago in 2022.
First Milk’s Haverfordwest Creamery won 17 class awards, two more than last year. The medals comprise five gold, eight silver and four bronze across its range of cheddars, Double Gloucester and Red Leicester.
The awards included five for its consumer brand cheeses, Golden Hooves, the brand’s full range including a vintage cheddar the same as the Supreme Champion cheese.
First Milk’s Customer Quality Manager Jack Eade received the trophies from Frome & Agricultural Cheese Show President Michael Rogers at last week’s event.
First Milk’s Lake District Creamery in Cumbria secured a further 11 class awards, bringing the total medal haul to 28.
Commenting on the results, Jack said: “This truly is an outstanding achievement. It’s testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team and the superb quality of milk our farmer members deliver all year round.”
