Redberth Lodge was again the venue earlier this week for the annual dinner of the Pembroke Farmers Club. A warm welcome was extended to everyone by the president, Mr. George Mathias, and the guest speaker, Clr. Peter Stock, of Haverfordwest, proposed a toast to the future health and prosperity of the Pembroke Farmers Club coupled with the South Pembrokeshire Young Farmers Club. Mr. John Halstead and Gethin Davies suitably responded. John reported that the 2004 Pembroke Show had enjoyed record entries and a record gate, and Gethin stated that the YFC was doing very well and, at the County Rally were placed fourth overall - just two points behind then runners-up for the Challenge shield. 'Our Guests' were toasted by the Farmers Club chairman- elect, Edward Morris, Loveston, to which Clr. Mrs. Pearl Llewelyn, Mayor of Pembroke replied. The Mayor remarked that the town and countryside had always been and still remain inter-dependant. "I always urge local people to buy local produce and I commend the local farmers for marketing quality products whilst at the same time keeping our countryside in very good order," she said. Spring cereals, barley - David Kenniford; oats - Philip Mathias; oil seed rape - Edward Morris. Grassland, clover ley - Simon Davies; second year ley - Andrew Mathias. Maize - David Phillips.
