Members attending the annual meeting of Clynderwen and Cardiganshire Farmers Ltd. this week were told that in the year to September 30 last record sales had been achieved. The meeting, held at the Nantyffin Motel, Llandisilio, on Tuesday evening, learned that turnover had peaked at £32,798,485, which included £900,000 of new business gained in Staffordshire. Gross profit on sales at £4,428,630 was up by £442,000. Mr. John Weston-Arnold, in his report as chairman of the board of management, reflected that sales were an indicator of the wellbeing of the industry and the overall increase was due only in a very small measure to inflation. For the current year, he insisted that the society must concentrate further on containing cost increases and this could be achieved by ensuring a quicker turnover of stock held in stores. "We must also re-visit our depots - continuing to revamp, relocate and rationalise where necessary to maintain a competitive business and attract customer and staff retention," warned John. Keith Gosney, general manager, commented that CCF could adequately respond to the demands of its members and customers and significantly reduce farm input costs. CCF continues to operate from 18 stores across the whole of Wales, maintaining a transport fleet and a current staff of 128. Record crowd for county's 'biggest sporting event of the year'
Most convincing winner of the day was Dai Jones on Cannon Bridge.
