Last Sunday, the Rotary Club of Tenby held the first of its two Harbour Events, previously known as Summer Spectaculars.
Unfortunately, Tenby Round Table had to cancel its event the Sunday before due to the adverse weather forecast.
The event was officially opened by Tenby’s Mayor Sue Lane. She was accompanied by Sergeant in Arms, John Morgan, and Sergeant at Mace, Denise Cousins.
As in previous years, the first entertainment was provided by Seren Irish Dancers who range from almost toddlers through to teenagers. Choreographed by Cheryl, the dancing was excellent and appreciated by all present.
Children’s entertainer, Chloe, was next on stage. She has now taken over from her mother Fergie and got all the children involved in dancing for which prizes were awarded.
Matt the Magic Man captivated the audience, both young and old, with tricks and then a wonderful Punch and Judy show.
The first of the evening’s bands were The Stangs who are based in Haverfordwest and played Indie Rock, some covers and also a number of their own numbers. The growing crowd very much appreciated The Stangs’ talent.
Headlining at the Harbour last Sunday were Universal Translators. The Harbour was now jam-packed and all those present witnessed a superb eclectic mix of songs from the 1960s through to the present day.
The day culminated with another magnificent firework display which was enjoyed by thousands of people on the Harbour itself and also those who had congregated on Castle Hill, Quay Hill, Bridge Street, Crackwell Street, High Street and The Norton above.
Numerous very positive comments were made by visitors and locals in respect of both the entertainment provided by Rotary and the fireworks finalé.
There are three remaining Harbour Events this summer. Sunday, August 12, the organisers are Tenby Round Table. Tenby Rotary Club will be hosting the event on Sunday, August 19, and it will be the turn of Tenby Lions Club on Bank Holiday Sunday, August 26 .
