Tavernspite CP School has no shortage of pupils passing through its gates, but for one family the end of the summer term concluded an association with the school spanning more than half-a-century. Brothers Keith, Roy and Tony Bevan all joined the school when it relocated to its new site in 1954. They were followed by brothers, Ken, Howard, Max and Reg, and sister, Elizabeth, before the next generation arrived. Such is the age gap between the eldest and youngest brothers that Reg shared a classroom with his niece, Frances, who is in fact nine months older than him. More nephews and nieces followed but when the baby of the family, Catherine, left last week to join the new intake at Ysgol Gyfun Dyffryn Taf she was the last. Headmaster Brian Jones, who heads a school of more than 200 children, said it really was the end of an era for the family. "We don't have that many families who have had such a long association with the school,' he said.
