The Rotary Club of Tenby was delighted to be blessed with good weather for their recent annual Medieval Fayre. The event included all the usual festivities and entertainment and was held once again at the magnificent and historic setting of Manorbier Castle. The fayre, opened by the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. John Griffiths, along with his mace bearers Clr. Trevor Hallett and Mr Robin Scanlon, and Town Crier Mr. John Thomas, proved to be a much enjoyed and successful occasion, but particularly so for the Smith family, on holiday from Cheshire, who were the lucky winners of the grand prize package in the free admission draw. The draw, the brainchild of Rotary Club of Tenby president Steve Williams, saw the winners receive a luxury limousine ride courtesy of Yes Limos, free tickets for the cinema, along with refreshments courtesy of Tenby Playhouse Cinema, (which the family utilised to see the latest Harry Potter adventure), along with a much-enjoyed family meal at the New Overlander Restaurant, Penally, courtesy of the proprietors Karen and Andy Tulley, and a family holiday at Kiln Park, (courtesy of Bourne Leisure) which the Smith family are eagerly forward to undertaking later this year. President Steve said that the prize could not have gone to a more deserving winner, as the family - Carl and Lisa, and their children Joseph, eight, Amy, seven, and two-year-old Ele, have been plagued with bad luck in recent times. Son Joseph was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2005, but now thankfully is on the road to recovery. He was however in hospital for treatment, the day before their holiday. In addition, Lisa is recovering from a broken foot, the family's car was damaged in a collision, and they had encountered and driven through flooding on the way to Pembrokeshire. Despite their difficulties. The family, including Lisa's mother Mary, however were over the moon to win and have thoroughly enjoyed their prizes, as indeed they have enjoyed their whole holiday in Tenby. President Steve said that the club would like to sincerely thank all the businesses in the area that had contributed prizes for the event. In addition to the admission draw prizes, valued at over £500, prizes to the total value over £1,000 had been received. He said that the club would like to sincerely thank everyone who had contributed. Grateful thanks he said were also due to everyone at Manorbier Castle, all members of Tenby Rotary Club, Inner Wheel Club and the Air Cadets, families and friends, the St. John's Ambulance, the entertainers and everyone else who had helped stage the event, along of course with all members of the public who turned up to support - thanks to everyone. The proceeds of the evening will be used to support Tenby Rotary Club's charitable activities in the year ahead in the local community and both nationally and internationally.
