The Wales Fair Trade flag flew from the Queen's Hall flagpole recently as it continued its tour of the principality. The flag will visit every county in Wales, finally arriving in Cardiff in time for St. David's Day.

With the help of dedicated volunteers from across the country, Wales has become the world's first Fair Trade nation and is pioneering the way in helping poor developing world producers get a fair price for their products.

Narberth Town Council has given its backing to the local steering committee in its bid to become a Fair Trade town, which amongst a number of things requires retailers within the town to offer Fair Trade items.

The Mayor, Clr. Suzanne Radford-Smith, said: "It is surprising how many of the traders do supply Fair Trade goods already. This just shows how progressing and caring Narberth is and it was nice to be able to show them the flag when it came."

The Mayor explained that to gain Fair Trade status requires the town to have a steering committee which is now formed, but anybody else who is interested in joining will be more than welcome.

The next meeting will be held at Bloomfield Community Centre on Thursday, February 5, at 7 pm.
