Name: Hywel Gibbs.
Born and brought up: Born in Newport, Gwent, brought up in Templeton.
Education: Sir Thomas Picton School, Haverfordwest, Millfield School, Somerset, Cardiff Institute of Higher Education.
Current occupation: Waste education and awareness officer for Pembrokeshire County Council.
Average working day: It all depends whether we are rolling out new services or not. It's a busy time for waste at the moment, with lots of changes going on. I have to plan and prioritise how we let the public know of these changes and how we're going to get them on board. Some days I'm bound to my desk developing strategies on how we are going to promote new or existing services, on others, I'm able to get out to events, school or community groups.
Favourite part of your job: Getting out and about giving talks about waste or answering probing questions from councillors and members of the public. Waste is a lot more interesting than it sounds and if anyone wants to know more about it, get in touch, I'll be glad to help out. I've become a bit of a waste nerd actually and whenever I go to friend's houses I can't help but look in their bins to see if they are recycling or not. They don't seem to invite me around much these days!
Hobbies: sport, music, writing (especially about sport) and travelling. I worked as a bin man for 18 months and I've seen every nook and cranny of Pembrokeshire; it's a great county to explore and having travelled the world I can safely say there is no place like home. Bondi Beach has nothing on Barafundle and, as for New Zealand being the most beautiful country in the world, sorry, but I'd have to disagree.
Sports clubs: Used to play cricket for Kilgetty, now Lamphey, and rugby for Tenby and Narberth, albeit not very well! I've tried my hand at football, too, but I was no good at that either!
Sporting achievements: Have played cricket for Pembrokeshire at youth and senior level and had trials for Wales at U16 and U19. I was also a champion stock judge for beef and pigs in my youth. Ok it's not a sport, but any success should be celebrated!
Best sporting moment: Any win with Lamphey is an achievement at the moment, but if one moment sticks out it has to be a Harrison-Allen cup tie against Pembroke back in 2000. Pembroke were chasing a low score and needed three to win off the last over and I was bowling it. The odds were against us, but I bowled a maiden and we won. I took the plaudits, but Mark Yea was the real hero. As wicket-keeper, the Pembroke batsmen took chances and ran quick singles to him, but he ran three of them out. I'll never forget the celebration afterwards. We went on to win the Harrison-Allen that year, but my performance in the final wasn't quite as memorable.
Family: Married to Claire and we're expecting our first child. My mum and dad still live in Templeton and my in-laws in Haverfordwest. My sister lives near Manchester, so we're all dotted around the place. It's a good job I like travelling really!
