With dramatic efficiency, Picton Castle expelled hordes of little aliens who landed last week and braced itself for an army of little knights and princesses, accompanied by a sprinkling of revolting serfs, on Wednesday.

A different family fun theme every week has created a loyal core of local mums rising to a weekly fancy dress challenge, plus plenty of tourists combining a day in Picton's 40 acres of woodland and walled garden with entertainment by Karlos and his team.

It was Medieval Merriment this week, with fun and games from Drake the Dragon Tamer, including Punch and Judy Show and Olde Magic, Hunt the Dragon and Catch the Dragon Eggs.

Next Wednesday, meanwhile, there will be a Teddy Bear's Picnic when you can join Karlos the Clown, the Picton Bear and friends for more family fun.

There will be a 'Hunt the Honey Pot' dash around the woods and a wet 'Throw the Bee Hives' game in the courtyard. Kids' shows will feature a Flea Circus and Teddy Magic.

Many activities are included in normal entry; some incur an additional £1 charge. Normal entry to gardens and galleries is £4.95 for adults and £2.50 for five to 15-year-olds. Under 5s free.
