THE new art show at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery, The Light Orchard by local artist Guy Manning, was officially opened by trustee John Ross on Friday.
The very well-attended show features over 30 works by Guy, all executed in 2011. This is Guy's second solo show at the museum, following a very successful exhibition in March 2010.
Guy was brought up in Pembrokeshire, his family having moved to Narberth when he was nine years of age. He obtained a first class honours degree in art and taught at Ysgol Dyffryn Taf in Whitland for 14 years. He has taken the decision to dedicate his time to become a full-time artist from Easter of this year.
As well as showing work at Tenby, Guy has also exhibited in other galleries in Britain, Germany, France and recently a prestigious gallery in New York.
Guy, whose main influences are from the French and Welsh painters of the 19th century, says of his work: "I like to think that I show something different and possibly even magical about places that by others may be missed. I try to paint a response, to squint into the sun. I try to paint the light as it comes into my eyes through trees, leaves, ferns and dust, through space, gaps and hedges, across birdsong, wave-talk, sea-sparkle and river-wander. Everything changes."
This sales exhibition runs until Friday, March 9, and is well worth visiting. The museum is part of the Collectorplan scheme for purchasing pictures.
