OPEN from tomorrow (Saturday) until November 3 at Oriel Q, The Queen's Hall Gallery Narberth, is the Drawing Biennale Exhibition. It is a diverse and exciting collection of drawings by artists and students using any medium to produce an image - charcoal, pencil, ink, crayons, paint, mud, dye, conté, and literally anything that makes a mark. The human figure, still life, landscapes and abstract forms are all displayed here and the vitality and honesty of this art form makes for a refreshing and stimulating show. Christine Kinsey, a well-established artist and lecturer has agreed to help curator Lynne Crompton select the work, and she will nominate three prize winners who will receive £100, £50 and £25. There will also be voting slips in the gallery for viewers to nominate their chosen piece of work, and a £50 prize awarded to the 'Peoples'choice'. Also, in Oriel Fach is an unusual installation created by Swansea artist Amanda Stone called 'Paper Shadows'. Based on the nude, Amanda challenges our conventional expectations , and by using cut outs of the figure and exploiting the shadows cast by these hanging forms, she has placed life drawing within a post modern context. On the stairs, the photographs of Barrie J. Davies explore the absurdity of contemporary life. Anarchic and witty images that surround us and yet go unnoticed until presented in a frame. Three good reasons to visit this superb gallery that continues to offer the public thoughtful and stimulating exhibitions month after month. Work can be purchased on an interest free scheme over six months, and if you become a 'Friend of the Gallery' you receive 10 per cent discount, as well as regular newsletters, and monthly invitations to the private views.
