The Ministry of Defence has announced that this week the Air Defence Training Range at Manorbier is hosting an exercise involving a number aircraft for a one-week period from June 11 to 15. The exercise, which is designed to test aircrafts' self-defence systems, is code-named 'Welsh Rider' and is similar to other exercises that have taken place in the region on previous occasions. Flying is taking place between 9 am and 5 pm daily, but there is no night flying. Manorbier Range offers excellent training and testing facilities and observers may see several different fixed-wing aircraft types, including Typhoon, Sentinel and Nimrod, as well as Seaking and Merlin helicopters. There will be no live weapon firing, but spectators may see the aircraft releasing Chaff over the sea area. Some exercise flying will be conducted at low level over land, but the amount low flying activity will be the minimum required to complete the essential training task.
