The owners of a local activity sports and theme park have said that a "new exciting investment" at the facility will help create new jobs for the area when it gets the final seal of approval from Pembrokeshire County Council's planning committee.

Members of the authority's planning and rights of way committee went against the recommendations of director of development, Dr. Steven Jones, at a meeting last week, and look set to approve an application from Heatherton World of Activities in St Florence, pending the committee's receipt of a further report at their next meeting, giving details of conditions for approval.

The scheme will see the development of 33 log cabins and 16 yurts, amended access, new visitor attractions and environmental improvements at the park.

"Pembrokeshire County Council's planning committee resolved to approve the Heatherton application earlier this month subject to conditions - the details of which need to go back to the next committee meeting for approval," said a spokesperson for the authority.

"If members are happy with the conditions, the permission would be issued," they added.

Heatherton's director, Mr. Charles Davies, said he was pleased to announce that the planning application for a "new exciting investment" looked set to get the thumbs up.

"The scheme features on-site accommodation, with 33 high quality log cabins and 16 yurts, together with additional attractions including a new Body Zorb, Water Warz, Kids 4x4 Jeeps, Personal Chariots, Permanent Maze, nine-hole zip wire course, BMX/mountain bike circuit and a dog agility course and a range of environmental improvements which will enhance the appearance of Heatherton," said planning consultant Andrew Vaughan-Harries, director of Hayston Developments and Planning Ltd.

"This development will secure the long term retention of both existing 54 staff and then create 30 new jobs with this on-site accommodation.

"Increasing the range of activities will enable Heatherton to be successfully marketed to a wider range of customers which in turn will generate increased income and jobs to Pembrokeshire and spread those benefits throughout the year," he added.
