An exciting new initiative has been created for Pembrokeshire youth football, with the amalgamation of two of the leading providers within the county. The FAW Pembrokeshire Schools FA has joined forces with the Texaco Pembrokeshire Football Academy, which is based at Welsh Premier club, Haverfordwest County. The Pembrokeshire Schools FA are offering provision for age groups which include Under 11, 12, 13, 14 and 16, while the Academy covers the same age groups, as well as development through to 19 years old at the Pembrokeshire College Football Academy. Trials for the Pembrokeshire Schools squads are currently being organised, and successful trialists will be required to attend Academy sessions every Friday evening starting in September, and running throughout the season. The Pembrokeshire Schools teams play an average of five representative fixtures throughout the season, while the Academy plays 10 games against other Welsh Premier Academies. Teams for both sets of fixtures will be selected from their respective squads, and the coaches who deliver the sessions will generally be in charge of the teams. FAW football development officer, Gerry Rigby, is delighted with the new arrangement. "This new initiative will not only be more efficient, and easier for players and parents to understand, it will be, more importantly, better for the youngsters," he said. "There is a clear pathway for our better players now to enable them to progress, if that is what they want. Both Ron Beynon and I have been trying for a long time to do this, and I know that he is as pleased as I am that we finally have found a formula. With goodwill from everyone, it can only go from strength to strength in the future."
