Since the introduction of the new foundation radio licence on January 1, amateur radio has started to claw back members and on Wednesday, September 25, two more names were added to the list when Neil Hughes and Michael Coughlan were successful in passing the foundation exam.
Also in the picture is Mrs. Irene Charles who presented the successful candidates with their certificates. Irene was one of the first people in Pembrokeshire to pass the foundation licence.
The exam was organised by members of the Cleddau Amateur Radio Society and was held in the Tenby Conservative Club. The idea behind the foundation licence is to fast track people into amateur radio. The courses take about six weeks and allows successful candidates to get on the air with limited power and encourages them to go on to take the intermediate and full licence exam.
The foundation licence is a quick cheap and fun way to get into amateur radio. Exams can be held any where in Pembrokeshire as the Cleddau Amateur Radio Society have a 'flying squad' of instructors and, although there is no guarantee that you will pass the exam, the success rate is 100 per cent so far.
